Author Biography

Sara L. Schwebel

Sara L. Schwebel is Associate Professor of English at the University of South Carolina. She is the author of Child-Sized History: Fictions of the Past in U.S. Classrooms (Vanderbilt UP, 2011) and the editor of Island of the Blue Dolphins: The Complete Reader’s Edition (U of California P, 2016). In collaboration with the National Park Service and Channel Islands National Park, she is building a virtual museum, a digital archive, and a series of K–12 student and teacher resources on Island of the Blue Dolphins and the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island, the historical figure on whom Scott O’Dell’s novel is based.
