Author Biography

Maria Alberto

Maria Alberto is completing her Ph.D. in literature and cultural studies at the University of Utah, where she pursues research interests in fan studies, adaptation, and popular culture. She is especially interested in how producers adapt texts with particular audiences in mind, as well as how the term “canon” has come to be used. Her recent work has included writing on fan reception of J. R. R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson, with a particular focus on how age and duration of fandom participation can impact fans’ experience.
